Comments: American
I'm sitting in a bar waiting for a friend to get off work. A ballgame is on the television and I'm surrounded by loud, half-drunk
people commenting on the days events. Later, I decided to wrap up what I overheard in these lyrics.
This song contains samples of things I found which I thought might make interesting percussion accents.
A typewriter, a bottle cap spinning to a stop on a plate, a staple gun into an old baking tin, and a handful of other things.
Seven Graylands: Drums, toy harmonica, keyboards/samples, guitar.

How are we to forgive?
How can I turn the other cheek?
When the Pope never forgave Sinead.
And our country does what it wants
I used to take this for granted
Now I take pills so I don't get sick
I hate the light at the end of the tunnel
Now that I'm used to the dark.
Let it go.
How am I going to learn?
Everything I say I got from TV
How amd I going to give to you?
When I haven't worked in 13 years
And my kids can't spell their own names
and my youngest is hooked on crack
and my oldest I haven't seen for years
Next week he'll be 14.
But I'm proud
I'll survive
Because I'm an American
But I'm strong
I'll survive
I'm an American
On the back of my car
It says "Don't buy it if it ain't built here"
And in the cab of my truck
I've got a gun that will shoot though anything
And I don't know
and I don't care
I think I'll keep my eyes closed
So when they come to take away my home
I won't have to watch
Let it go.
But I'm proud
I'll survive
because I'm an American
But I'm strong
I'll survive
Because I'm an American
But I'm proud you know I will survive
because I'm an American
Because I'm strong
Because I'm strong
I will survive
Because I'm an American
